RYA Level 2 – Powerboat Handling Course – ICC


This two-day entry level course provides the skills and background knowledge needed to drive a powerboat and is the basis of the International Certificate of Competence (ICC).

This course is known widely as the National Powerboat Certificate, PB2, RYA PB2, ICC, Powerboat Level 2. The focuses on low speed close quarters handling, man overboard recovery, an introduction to driving at planing speed and collision regulations. We like to really grow your confidence and ability to use your boat. You do not need to do the Level 1 course before doing this course.

Pre-course experience:

Assumed knowledge:
None. May be preceded by Level 1 Start Powerboating

Course content:
Launching and recovery, slow boat handling, fast boat handling, approaching and securing to a buoy, anchoring, leaving and coming alongside, man overboard. Distress Situations, Basic Navigation, Basic Tides. Basic Weather.

Ability after the course:
Self-sufficient and confident powerboater in the right conditions, aware of own limitations and those of the craft in use.

Minimum duration:
This is a 2 day course starting at 10am both days.

Minimum age:
The minimum age is 12. Candidates under the age of 16 will be issued with an endorsed certificate.
