RYA Powerboat Instructor

RYA Powerboat Instructor qualifications will enable you to teach the best attended course in the entire RYA Scheme, RYA Powerboat Level 2, as well as the RYA Powerboat Level 1. RYA Powerboat Instructor training prerequisites are simple but must all be achieved to be able to attend a RYA Powerboat Instructors course:

All potential Powerboat Instructors are required to complete a 1 day pre-assessment course to assess your personal boat handling skills. This assessment will take place the day before the course starts. The course fee includes the price of the pre-assessment.

RYA Advanced Powerboat Instructor

Existing powerboat instructors wishing to teach the advanced course must hold that level of certificate themselves, gained by taking the two day course and they must have completed the Advanced Exam (unless they already hold an RYA Yachtmaster Offshore certificate). The advanced instructor course lasts two days and the minimum age is 17 and is run by an RYA Powerboat Trainer.

RYA PWC (Jet Ski) Instructor

The 3 Day RYA Jet Ski (PWC) Instructor Course builds on your existing jet ski experience and introduces a range of teaching techniques to help develop you into a competent jet ski instructor. The course is run by a PWC Trainer and on day 3 an additional RYA Moderator will attend the course. We aim to get you adept at teaching from both a jetski and powerboat so you are comfortable in whatever environment you may go on to teach; whether it be from a superyacht tender, rib or jetski. During the 3 days there is a mixture of practical water based sessions and classroom theory sessions. We always aim to bring some ‘guinea pig’ students in on day 3 to give students some great real teaching practice.

RYA PPR Professional Practice Responsibilities - Online Course

If you work commercially on the water, then this is one of the courses required in order for you to obtain your RYA/MCA Certificate of Competence. This is an e-learning course, but an RYA instructor is on hand to provide as much support as you require, predominately via email, but we also offer Skype chats at pre-arranged times.

RYA 1st Aid (First Aid) Course

We run this course in partnership with Plas Heli (RTC)

This one day first aid course covers all the usual first aid subjects with an addition of those subjects that relate to first aid at sea. It is aimed at anyone looking to gain Emergency First Aid knowledge plus those who goes afloat but also anyone looking to gain an Emergency First Aid At Work qualification.

In a medical emergency a little first aid knowledge and immediate action can save lives, especially in more remote locations. This one-day course is designed to provide a working knowledge of first aid for anyone including those that use small craft and to support skippers.

RYA VHF Radio Course (SRC, DSC, GMDSS) - Online Course

The RYA Marine Radio Short Range Certificate (SRC) is the minimum qualification required to operate marine VHF radio equipment on a UK flagged vessel. This includes both fixed and handheld equipment with and without Digital Selective Calling (DSC). It is obtained by successfully completing an SRC exam conducted at an RYA Recognised Training Centre.

Most candidates are required to complete an RYA SRC course prior to taking the exam, therefore the majority of exams take place after marine radio SRC courses. When booking a SRC course the RYA training centre will give you details of the time and location for the exam.

The SRC course may be taken in a classroom or online through an RYA Recognised Training Centre. There is no age limit for taking the SRC course although exam candidates must be 16 years old on the day of the exam.

RYA Radar Course

A one-day course giving you an understanding of radar as an aid to navigation and collision avoidance.

Cruising boats increasingly have radar on board. The International Regulations for the Prevention of Collisions at Sea state that if you have a radar, you must know how to use it.

Radar is probably the most versatile of all electronic navigation aids, but the best results are only obtained when you know how to use all the functions correctly. It is not an all seeing eye, and can easily mislead those who do not understand its controls, allow for its limitations, or interpret its picture.

RYA Diesel Engine Maintenance Course

A one-day beginners’ course to help you prevent and solve diesel engine failure.

Mechanical failure is the main cause of rescue call-outs to cruisers. Basic maintenance and engine care will help ensure that you are not part of this statistic.

Most engine problems can be avoided by taking simple precautions, and you don’t need a detailed mechanical knowledge.

This course teaches you how your engine works, how to keep it healthy by using basic checks and maintenance procedures, and how to get it started again in the event of a breakdown.

Whether you sail a yacht with an auxiliary diesel engine or are a motor cruising enthusiast, this course could not just save you money, but one day could save your life.
